English 111 How to Write your Explaining a Concept paper

1) Begin with an introduction. In 6-8 sentences you should generally summarize the subject for the reader. What is your subject? Why are you interested in it? How long have you known about it?

2) Your thesis paragraph: Begin with your very specific thesis. This is what will you be focusing on in this paper. Your thesis is what you will be sticking to for the entire paper. It is the idea or concept that you are going to try and explain to the reader. Follow your thesis up with at least three things that RELATE to your thesis. Explain each of these things/subjects in a sentence or two.

3) 1st Body Paragraph. Here you are going to begin by reminding the reader of the first thing you just mentioned that is connected to your thesis. Basically, you are repeating that sentence, but rewording it slightly. In five to six sentences, explain this subject in detail, and how it relates to your topic. Use lots of specific details and sensory details.

4) Go into detail on why it is important for the reader to understand the thing that you just mentioned, and how this understanding can help them get them better under the concept you are attempting to explain.

5) Here you are going to begin by reminding the reader of the second thing you mentioned in your thesis paragraph that is connected to your thesis. Basically, you are repeating that sentence, but rewording it slightly. In five to six sentences, explain this subject in detail, and how it relates to your topic. 6) Go into detail on why it is important for the reader to understand the thing that you just mentioned, and how this understanding can help them get them better understand the concept you are attempting to explain.

9) Summary. In the summary, you need to restate your thesis, then restate each of the points that you have used to support your thesis.
